Privacy Policy

Scrollfic is an app for reading AI-written fiction that keeps going as you scroll. It's built to know as little about you as possible: there are no accounts, no ads, no tracking and no analytics. This policy explains what happens to the little data the app does use.

The short version

• Your stories stay on your phone. Your library is saved on your device, not on our server.
• To write each passage, the app sends your story details to our server, which passes them to a third-party AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or xAI) and sends the passage back. We don't store that text.
• The app asks first. Nothing is sent to an AI provider until you agree, and you can withdraw that in Settings.
• We never sell data, show ads or track you across apps or websites.

What stays on your device

Your stories, their titles and summaries, your story options and your reading preferences. They're stored only in the app on your device, and deleting a story or the app removes them. We can't see or recover them.

What the app sends, and why

Story details, to write your story

When you start or continue a story, the app sends:

• your story idea, the options you chose (tropes, mood, spice, point of view, pace) and any directions you give;
• the story so far: the latest passages and a short running summary, so the next passage follows on;
• names used in your other stories, so new stories don't reuse them (not those stories' text).

Our server forwards this to an AI provider to write the next passage (or a title or summary) and returns the result to your device. Our server does not store or log this text. It keeps only a one-way cryptographic fingerprint of each passage it wrote, for 30 days, so it can confirm later summary and title requests are for passages it actually wrote. The text can't be recovered from the fingerprint.

Please don't put personal information (yours or anyone else's) in your story ideas or directions.

A random device ID, for daily limits

The first time you open the app, our server gives it a random ID. It isn't your name, email, Apple ID or any hardware or advertising ID. We use it to count the passages you read each day (free and subscription limits) and to spot abuse. For that we keep the ID, your plan (free or subscription) and a count of passages per day for up to 90 days (exact times for 3 days).

Settings shows the first part of this ID as your Support ID, so you can quote it when contacting us.

Technical details with each request

Each request includes the app's version and your device's time zone (so "today" matches your calendar). Our server logs each request's time, type, result and app version with your device ID, never its story content. For abuse prevention it records only a keyed, one-way fingerprint of your IP address, not the address itself. These logs are kept for up to 30 days.

Third-party AI providers

Scrollfic uses one of these providers to write stories: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google (Gemini) or xAI (Grok). We use their paid business APIs, under terms where your content is used only to provide the service and isn't used to train their models. They may keep requests for a limited time (typically up to 30 days) for abuse and safety monitoring. Their policies: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI. If we ever add a provider not on this list, the app will ask for your permission again.

Other service providers

• Render hosts our server in the United States. Like any host, it processes IP addresses to deliver traffic.
• Apple handles App Store downloads and any subscription payments. We never see your payment details, only whether your subscription is active.

What we don't do

No accounts or sign-in. No advertising. No tracking across other apps or websites, and no analytics or advertising SDKs. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and we don't access your contacts, photos, location, microphone or camera.

Where data is processed

Our server and the AI providers are in the United States. If you're elsewhere, including Canada or the EU, your story details are processed there to provide the service you asked for.

Your choices and rights

• Withdraw AI permission anytime in Settings → AI story writing. No new passages are written after that.
• Delete your stories in the app (Settings → Delete all stories) or by deleting the app.
• Access or delete server data: email us with your Support ID and we'll send you, or delete, the records linked to your device ID.

Depending on where you live (for example under Canada's PIPEDA, the GDPR or US state laws), you may have further rights, such as to complain to a data protection authority. We'll respond to requests within 30 days.

Children

Scrollfic isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. Material changes, such as a new AI provider, will be shown in the app before they apply.
